The Maritime and Coastguard Agency at Nor-Shipping

Lars Lippuner and Virginia McVea meeting with the Norway Maritime Authority (NMA) at Nor-Shipping

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) reaffirmed its commitment to international maritime collaboration and innovation with its presence at Nor-Shipping, one of the world’s leading maritime industry events.

Held in Oslo, Nor-Shipping brought together global maritime leaders, innovators, and policymakers. The MCA delegation met with key stakeholders to promote the UK’s maritime safety and regulatory leadership, with the event providing a platform to explore future partnerships and reinforce the UK’s role in shaping global maritime standards.

The MCA team used the opportunity to engage with international counterparts on shared challenges such as decarbonisation, digitalisation, and seafarer welfare. These discussions helped strengthen relationships and identify areas for future cooperation.

As part of the conference schedule, both Virginia McVea (Chief Executive) and Lars Lippuner (Director of UK Customer Maritime Services) attended the Ocean Leadership Conference, which focussed on the geopolitics around shipping and trade.

A meeting was held with the British-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce Board to discuss future engagement and investment opportunities for their members within the UK. The MCA also held a meeting with the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) and Kystrederiene (Norwegian Coastal Shipowners), building on the close working relationship between the UK and Norwegian maritime sectors.

Looking ahead, the MCA is committed to building on the momentum from Nor-Shipping and plans are already underway to enhance cross-government coordination for future international events, ensuring the UK maritime sector continues to lead by example on the global stage.

Reflecting on the event, Lars said:

“At Nor-Shipping this year, we’ve been able to engage with international stakeholders, while forging strategic partnerships and showcasing our own expertise in sustainable shipping and innovation.”

“The week provided insight into the current state of global maritime affairs, technology trends and created opportunities through collaboration between UK and Norwegian entities, taking onboard new ideas and concepts that will help us navigate towards a greener global maritime future.”
